Spring has finally arrived!

At this stage of the year, the days are getting longer, rainy weather is starting to subside and the temperatures are getting more bearable  - Finally!

With spring approaching, I can already see that our Vertical Gardens are beginning to burst into growth and bloom.  So what do we need to do to get the best out of our Vertical Gardens?

Here are a few tips…..

  • Father’s Day is coming up so if your Dad loves gardening, think about buying him a Vertical Garden!

  • Keep an eye on the moisture of your pots and adjust your watering schedules to suit

  • Over winter, some plants may have become a little battered around, so now is the time to cut them back, remove any dead  bits and really get them looking good.

  • Remove any dead plants and replace them with something fresh and new – add a splash of colour, some interesting foliage or maybe something edible!

  • Feed your vertical gardens – I like to use a good quality organic fertilizer.  Beware though that some of these fertilizes can be a little testing on your nose, so keep your neighbours in mind when selecting your products!

  • Spring is a good time to re-pot your plants that are becoming overgrown, allowing you to split them and  replant your new babies.

  • Flowering plants will be blooming soon – to get the best out of them, be sure to prune your flowering plants as the flowers die back – this can also keep your plants flowering for longer periods of time.

  • Weeds are starting to rear their ugly little heads – keep an eye on them and get them out as soon as you can – you don’t want them taking over your pots!

  • The most important thing to remember is to get out into your garden, enjoy the fresh air and have fun!  Gardening can be very therapeutic and highly enjoyable!
